Currently Jim Lynch is Chapter 905’s service officer.  Jim is one of the founders of the Chapter.  Jim spent twenty-five years in the military, including eight years in the Marine Corps, where he served in Vietnam in ’64, ’66 -‘67.  He retired from the Army Reserve in 1987 as a sergeant major in operations and training.  Jim is accredited by the Veterans Administration (since 2003) as a veterans service representative.

Jim Lynch, Lou Stanko, and Jim Atkinson (also recently accredited by the VA), are available to assist you when dealing with the Veterans Administration.  If you haven’t done so yet, you’ll find getting involved with the VA can be very challenging and perplexing.  They will try your patience!  Basically, your service officer is responsible for counseling, guidance and assistance to our members and their dependents.

Reviewing and discussing VA entitlements is a primary function.  Once a decision is made on a prudent course of action for a service-connected disability claim, applicable forms are completed, evidentiary documentation is gathered and a properly prepared claim is submitted.  Also, education assistance information is provided.  Another primary function is assisting members in enrolling in the VA healthcare system.  This is critical, especially for Vietnam veterans!  Health issues amongst Vietnam vet’s leaves much to be desired.  Every Vietnam vet should be screened for Agent Orange related issues.

If you have questions or concerns regarding your military service or your health, contact Jim or Lou.  This is simply a continuance of our motto of, “veterans helping veterans”.  Chapter 905 is like an extended family; we take care of each other.
